For over 25 years, the Sacramento Chinese Community Service Center has partnered with school districts across the Greater Sacramento region to provide high-quality expanded learning programs that support students beyond the school day. Through strong collaboration with district leaders, principals, teachers, and families, we create safe, engaging, and inclusive environments that promote academic achievement, social-emotional growth, and youth leadership.
Today, the Center proudly serves thousands of students across Sacramento City Unified, Twin Rivers Unified, Natomas Unified, and Elk Grove Unified School Districts. From early learning and before-school care to after-school enrichment, summer programs, and youth workforce development, our partnerships ensure that every student has access to meaningful opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive in school and in life.
Since 1998, the Sacramento Chinese Community Service Center has proudly served students and families in the Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD). What began with our very first after-school program has grown into a long-standing partnership dedicated to helping students succeed in school and in life.
Today, we support more than 40 SCUSD schools, offering before-school care, TK/Kindergarten readiness, K–12 after-school enrichment, and summer learning. By working closely with principals, teachers, and families, we provide safe, engaging environments that foster academic growth, social-emotional development, and leadership skills. For over 25 years, our commitment has ensured that every SCUSD student has the chance to learn, grow, and thrive beyond the school day.
The Center has been a longstanding expanded learning partner with Twin Rivers Unified School District (TRUSD) since 2011, proudly serving families in the North Highlands, Del Paso, Hagginwood, Rio Linda and Foothill Farms communities. Together, we impact over 3,300 students daily in Before School Programs and After School Programs across 26 TRUSD K-12 schools providing safe and supportive environments.
The Center collaborates with school stakeholders and community partners to actively engage students, develop 21st century skills, support social-emotional learning, empower youth voice and leadership and ensure access to all. Recently, the Center’s Youth Workforce program across 5 High Schools provides career readiness and on-the-job training to over 70 youth paid-interns resulting in career pathways and feeder pattern empowerment.
The Center has been a proud core program provider in Natomas Unified School District since 2018. Through the LEAP Academy, the Center currently serves 600 students throughout 4 school sites. Our programs are dedicated to supporting academic growth and fostering youth development. We provide academic support and structured enrichment opportunities designed to create a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment with a strong focus on literacy.
The Sacramento Chinese Community Service Center (SCCSC) began its partnership with the Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) in the 2000s during a time of rapid community growth and increasing student diversity. Both organizations shared a mission to provide equitable learning opportunities and meaningful support for students beyond the regular school day.
SCCSC launched its first after-school programs in partnership with EGUSD elementary schools, offering academic assistance, enrichment activities, and family engagement opportunities that connected home, school, and community. These early programs emphasized literacy support, homework help, and cultural enrichment, laying the foundation for a long-term collaboration.
During the 2010s, the SCCSC–EGUSD partnership grew significantly through joint efforts to implement ASES (After School Education and Safety) and 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) programs. These initiatives provided structured, high-quality after-school environments that supported student learning, creativity, and well-being.
SCCSC became a lead agency in coordinating and operating programs across multiple EGUSD elementary and middle schools. Working closely with district administrators and site principals, SCCSC developed consistent systems for staffing, curriculum planning, and program evaluation. The organization also established dedicated leadership roles including Program Managers and Team Leaders to provide site-level supervision, professional development, and continuous quality improvement.
Through shared accountability and clear communication, both SCCSC and EGUSD maintained compliance with grant expectations, consistently meeting attendance and quality benchmarks outlined by the California Department of Education.
In recent years, SCCSC and EGUSD have continued to strengthen their partnership through alignment with the ASSETs (After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens) program and the state’s Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P). Together, they have enhanced program quality, extended service hours, and expanded enrichment opportunities to ensure that all students have access to safe, engaging, and academically supportive environments before and after school.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the partnership demonstrated adaptability and resilience by transitioning to virtual and hybrid learning models. SCCSC collaborated with EGUSD principals and administrators to maintain student connection, provide academic recovery support, and promote social-emotional well-being during challenging times.
Today, SCCSC operates dozens of after-school programs across EGUSD sites, serving thousands of students daily. The organization remains a trusted community partner supporting the district’s goals for equity, attendance, academic engagement, and family involvement.
